2006/7 Scholarship Awarded!

The Southern Maryland chapter is pleased to announce that Lindsey Bachand from La Plata High School is our 2006/2007 scholarship winner. Lindsey will be studying Interior Design while at Virginia Tech. This is the 13th scholarship that our chapter has awarded since 1998 and coincidentally we received 13 applications this year. All told, 26 students from the tri-county area will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall. For those interested, the average GPA
of this years class is 3.8 and you would need to score 1230 on your SAT just to get to the 50% mark.

Congratulations, Lindsey!

Mission

WHAT DOES THE SOUTHERN MARYLAND ALUMNI ASSOCIATION DO? Since 1998 twelve scholarships totaling $13,000 have been awarded to Southern Maryland freshmen entering Tech. We also organize activities that enable former Hokies to get together for social, sporting and fundraising events – such as wine tasting parties and VT football TV happy hours, held at local sports bars. Proceeds raised are used to fund scholarships for local high school students who have chosen to attend Virginia Tech.

The basic purposes of the Southern Maryland alumni chapter are as follows:

  • To provide an important communications link between alumni and the university
  • To promote the image and reputation of Virginia Tech within the community
  • To promote strong positive relationships among alumni, students, parents and others within the community
  • To support the activities of Virginia Tech and work toward the realization of the university's educational goals
  • To provide the university with a strong core of alumni volunteers who serve as an important marketing arm of the university
  • To promote the alumni pride and spirit of Virginia Tech

The Southern Maryland Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association is part of an international network of Virginia Tech Alumni and friends. For more information on Hokies in your area, visit the Alumni Association Site at http://www.alumni.vt.edu/
